I don’t know what made me think of this, but I recently realized that tv theme songs aren’t as good as the used to be. Yes, my ringtone is currently the theme from Brooklyn Nine-Nine and it works well as a ring tone but back in the day, theme songs were an exciting part of the show. So, I decided to round up my favourites:

Full House: Basically anything on ABC’s TGIF. I don’t even know what channel is anymore or any shows they play but I know that they ruled Friday Nights in the 90s. The song stayed constant but they did update over the years to add different characters.

Mad About You: I don’t really remember a lot about this show, my mom used to watch this one but I really liked the song. I basically know that it’s Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser and a dog and this song. I think that’s all I need to know.

The Drew Carey Show: This show always had a over the top opening and it seemed like it changed almost every season. I also even enjoyed the show. I picked 5’Clock World but they were all pretty great.

Pepperann: ABC in the 90s not only ruled Friday nights but they ruled Saturday mornings with One Saturday Morning. Pepperann was one of my favourites, obviously because she was much too cool for 7th grade and she was one in a million.

Married with Children: I loved this show as a kid, which is probably completely inappropriate. It started my love of Christina Applegate and Katey Segal (who I loved on Futurama and couldn’t watch on Sons of Anarchy). I was also really excited when I went to Chicago and found out the fountain in the opening was real!

Now I know I’m missing loads of other songs. Of course the Friends theme song is a classic – you know you still clap even when you’re alone and Fresh Prince of Bel Air was life changing, it can actually come on in the club and people lose their minds and know all the words but I wanted to mix it up a bit.

Tell me, what other songs do you think should be on this list?

  1. Yesssss! I always catch myself singing to the old TV theme songs, but most of the newer ones are instrumental or just not that great. I sure do wish we still had a TGIF lineup, because those were the days. :)
