tafelscene: baroque + beer [giveaway]

You may remember a few months ago when I learned that “Bach is the New Black” when my friend and I attended a Tafelmusik’s Tafelscene concert. Tafelscene is Tafelmusik for people under 35, a way for the next generation to enjoy beautiful classical music. My friend and I had a great time, the music was absolutely remarkable so I’m so excited that Tafelmusik is expanding this program with “Baroque and Beer”.

This event will bring Tafelmusik to the Tranzac Club on May 15th. This smaller venue will allow the audience to experience baroque music as it was intended, in a small, party-like atmosphere. Tafelscene wants to break down the barrier between musician and audience and the Tranzac club is the perfect venue for this. The evening will feature Vivaldi’s Spring and Summer from The Four Seasons. The event is only $20 if you purchase in tickets in advance or $25 at the door and that includes two beer samples courtesy of McAuslan Brewery. Doors open at 8pm and music starts at 9pm

And now, for the giveaway! Tafelmusik has graciously provided two tickets for my one of my fabulous readers. This giveaway is for people that can make it to the event in Toronto on May 15th. Good luck!

May 2-4: what to do/see/eat/drink this weekend in toronto

Happy new month everyone! I have been informed that it is May, although I’m not sure if Mother Nature got the memo. Here’s a few ideas for this weekend in a rainy Toronto.

Do: This weekend, Jane’s Walks will be taking over the city despite the rain. These walks are happening throughout the city and are volunteer led. They’re a great way to explore a neighbourhood, meet you neighbours and learn something new about your community. The walks are on varying topics and are of various lengths, so check the site to find the one that fits your schedule. You can also text JANE to 45678 to donate $10 to this volunteer run organization.

See: I don’t know if you heard but the Raptors are in the playoffs 😉 If you’re not crowd-adverse, head down to Maple Leaf Square or “Jurassic Park” as it’s being called these days (oh and I wish it would stay that way) to watch our Raptors take on the Nets. The Raptors will be handing out ponchos, just in case it rains, and you can watch the game on the big screens outside the ACC with hundreds of people. You may even see them take the series tonight.

Eat/Drink: Looking to get out of town this weekend? I don’t blame you, I’m pretty sure every major road is going to be closed… but I digress. This weekend is the Niagara Food and Wine Expo. I went to the TFWE in November and had a great time. Tickets can be purchased online or onsite and sample tickets are a dollar each, they recommend about $20 per person for sampling, depending on how hungry or thirsty you are. 😉

Whatever you get up to this weekend, I hope it’s a great one. Also, don’t forget, Mother’s Day is a week away – so maybe get your shopping done this weekend instead of fighting crowds next :)

And now for my Friday song, I had something else in mind but I feel like I need to share Drake for good karma! #WeTheNorth

thirsty thursday: blood orange sangria

Another week almost behind us and another drink I love from Jack Astors. This week is the blood orange sangria. This drink is another great one for the summer. It’s a blend of chardonnay, peach schnapps, triple sec, juices and soda. They even through in a few fruits. I really like this drink, I’ve even tried to recreate it but I think I put too much triple sec.

Although this one isn’t tart like the blue raspberry lemonade, I usually only get one of them because as delicious as they are, I drink them really quickly because there’s a lot of ice and it’s a smaller glass but it’s definitely worth a try. Again, it’s perfect for the (hopefully) sunny days ahead.

Has anyone tried this one? Have a great Thursday evening!
